About Us
Newport Chinese Cultural and Language Club was one of the first cultural clubs to exist at Newport High School in Bellevue, WA. Since its founding, it has provided Newport students a place to learn and experience the Chinese culture, whether through cultural celebrations, weekly meetings, or special guest speaker presentations.
In 2011, Chinese club membership grew from 7 to 33 and became the largest cultural club at Newport. We introduced new meeting contents, such as "song of the day”, "news chowder" and began celebrating traditional Chinese holidays such as "Mid-autumn Festival", "Spring Festival", and "Dragon Boat Festival".etc
Newport Chinese Club has also initiated and organized the first Newport High School International Festival, collaborating with Spanish Club and French Club to host a true cultural fiesta.
On December 14, 2012, Newport Chinese Club hosted the first United Cultural Celebration (based off of the "International Festival" idea) at Newport. Four cultural clubs: Chinese, Spanish, Jewish, and Black Student Union joined hands together and spreaded cultural awareness amongst student groups who would usually self-segragate themselves at school. The event was a success with over sixty student attendees.
